Nouakchott

The Commission for Human Rights, Humanitarian Action and Relations with Civil Society explained that the draft national action plan to combat trafficking in persons (2024-2026), which was approved by the Council of Ministers during its meeting today, Wednesday, was prepared by the National Authority to Combat Trafficking in Persons and Smuggling of Migrants, affiliated to the Office of the Commission for Human Rights, Humanitarian Action and Relations with Civil Society, in cooperation with the International Organization for Migration.

In a statement issued on Wednesday evening, a copy of which was received by the Mauritanian News Agency, the commission added that this plan was prepared according to a participatory approach, which included extensive consultations with government sectors, independent national human rights institutions, and national and international civil society organizations.

OHCHR noted that the plan aims to provide the Government with an integrated planning tool that will enable Mauritania to effectively and sustainably combat this crime, punish perpetrators and identify, assist and protect victims and witnesses.
