Organizing a Consultative Workshop on Preparing the Green Hydrogen Code

Today, Tuesday in Nouakchott, the Ministry of Petroleum, Mines and Energy organized a consultative workshop on preparing the Green Hydrogen Code.

This three-day workshop aims to enrich discussion and dialogue on aspects of this blog.

In a speech on this occasion, His Excellency the Minister of Petroleum, Mines and Energy, Government Spokesman, Mr. Nani Ould Achraouqa, explained that the government has launched several parallel studies aimed at developing the sector, such as the low-carbon hydrogen roadmap (available to the public), the hydrogen cadastral project, And studying the hydrogen infrastructure, it also signed several memorandums of understanding and framework agreements to develop green hydrogen projects with a total of 88 gigawatts of renewable energy.

He added that the government has acquired the necessary expertise and begun broad consultations with its development partners and the private sector with the aim of developing a regulatory framework for green hydrogen, noting that this participatory path aims to develop the proposed legal framework that responds comprehensively to the challenges faced by the private sector in implementing its projects, in addition to protecting Investing in the face of anxiety and uncertainty.

He pointed out that the ambitious energy vision, which was developed in cooperation with partners, aims to make Mauritania a future regional pole integrated for clean energy and green industries in accordance with the program and ambitions of His Excellency the President of the Republic, the rotating President of the African Union, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El-Ghazouani.

In turn, the representative of the World Bank in Mauritania, Ms. Cristina Isabel Santos, stated that responsible development of the sector with optimal exploitation of the country’s potential will be decisive for the development of the Mauritanian economy and the well-being of its population, and has a positive impact on environmental protection and energy security.

She added that establishing a legal and institutional framework to enable investment in the private sector is considered one of the key enabling factors for the sector at this early stage of its development.

She pointed out that this consultation constitutes an element that encourages optimism that the country is on the right path to seize the opportunities offered by this new industrial sector.

The workshop witnessed presentations on the composition of hydrogen and comparisons on the tax side.

The opening of the workshop was attended by Their Excellencies the Ministers of Economy and Sustainable Development, Digital Transformation, Innovation and Modernization of Administration, and Water and Sanitation, in addition to the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Petroleum and a number of concerned sector executives.
