President of Republic Receives Turkish Ambassador’s Credentials

On 27 February, in Nouakchott, His Excellency Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh Ghazouani, the President of the Republic, received the credentials of HE Mr. Burhan Koroglu, as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Turkey to the Islamic Republic of Mauritania.

After the presentation of the credentials, the President of the Republic granted the Turkish diplomat an audience in the presence of Mr. Mohamed Salem Ould Merzoug, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation, and Mauritanians abroad.

In a statement to the Mauritanian news agency following the meeting, the Turkish ambassador said he was honored to meet the President of the Republic and present his credentials to him.

He added that the meeting was an opportunity to review strategic issues of interest to the two brotherly countries and exchange views on ways to develop bilateral relations, particularly in the economic, cultural, and political fields.

The Turkish diplomat pledged to the President of the Republic to spare no effort to develop cooperative relations between the two countries and encourage Turkish companies to invest in Mauritania.

Mr. Koroglu indicated that the Republic of Turkey would soon send an invitation to Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh Ghazouani to visit the country, an opportunity to meet his brother, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, noting that during this visit, strategic agreements will be signed between the two countries.

He stressed that relations between Mauritania and Turkey will experience qualitative development in the coming period, in accordance with the will of the leaders of the two countries to serve the common interests of the two brotherly peoples.

The President of the Republic welcomed the message of congratulations sent by the Turkish President on the occasion of his accession to the presidency of the African Union.
