Nouakchot

The Minister of Petroleum, Mines and Energy, Government Spokesman, Mr. Nani Ould Chrougha, said that the visit of the European Union Commissioner and the Head of the Spanish Government to Mauritania last week resulted in the signing of several important agreements in the field of green hydrogen and migration.

In response to a question about the visit, while commenting on the results of the cabinet meeting on Wednesday evening, at the pronouncement hall of the headquarters of the Mauritanian News Agency in Nouakchott, accompanied by the Ministers of Islamic Affairs and Indigenous Education and  Trade, Industry, Handicrafts and Tourism, Mauritania feared that it would become a country of residence for migrants after it was a transit area for them, as a result of the country’s economic development and the turmoil in the region, so it was necessary to conclude cooperation in this field.

He stressed the importance of this visit, the first of its kind in the history of the country, which indicates the great importance that Europeans attach to Mauritania on the one hand, and to the economic, political and security situation and geographical location on the other, noting that there are previous agreements between the two parties on migration.

In response to a question about the adoption by North African countries of the candidacy of His Excellency the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh EL Ghazouani, for the presidency of the African Union, the government spokesman confirmed the validity of this information, but His Excellency the President has not yet announced his candidacy for the aforementioned post.

In response to a question about his recent visit to South Africa, he explained that the Ministry participated in the world’s largest demonstration on mineral development, where it set up a pavilion in the exhibition held at that event, and several national institutions participated in it, to introduce the country’s capabilities, to encourage investment in it and to attract investors to it.

With regard to the current events in the sisterly Republic of Senegal, the government spokesman affirmed his confidence that Senegal will overcome this stage and remain a prosperous country and its democracy is firm, stressing the depth of the historical relationship between the two countries, which includes all fields.
