Government Spokesman: The Delay in gas Extraction is due to Technical Reasons Related to the Complex Nature of the Project
Nouakchott
The Minister of Petroleum, Mines and Energy, Government Spokesman, Mr. Nani Ould Chrougha, confirmed that the extraction of gas was delayed for technical reasons related to the complex nature of the project, as well as the Corona pandemic, but these reasons do not justify all this delay, denying the existence of any crisis between the partners in the project.
Commenting on the results of the cabinet meeting Wednesday evening at the pronouncement hall of the Mauritanian News Agency in Nouakchott, he stressed that there is a discussion and study between Mauritania and Senegal on the reasons for the high cost announced by companies and their incomes, recalling the methods of gas production, the five stages it goes through, the cost of each of them separately and its duration.
In response to a question about the restructuring of the Mauritanian Electricity Company, the minister said that the legal texts governing these companies are old and had to be implemented to bring the service closer to citizens and control the process of electricity production, transmission and distribution, in addition to providing electricity services in the countryside, stressing that the restructuring of the company will achieve positive results in the future.
