Economic Affairs Minister Reviews Investment Opportunities in Mauritania with MEDEF International

The Minister of Economic Affairs and Productive Sectors, Mr. Ousmane Mamoudou Kane, reviewed, Thursday in Paris, before MEDEF International the important investment opportunities in Mauritania and the advantages it offers thanks to the diversity of its mineral, energy and maritime wealth, stressing that the Gross Domestic Product is expected to increase with the start of gas exploitation in 2023, on the basis of estimates which confirm the existence of appreciable reserves in the maritime region.

The minister also revealed the ambition of the Mauritanian government to diversify the country’s economy which goes beyond energy exploitation, in the sense that there is an important opportunity allowing French companies to benefit from it in the fields of agriculture, livestock, and fisheries where our country has great potential.

The meeting was also an opportunity for the Minister to review the economic situation of the country, alluding to the repercussions caused by the coronavirus and reviewing the measures taken by the government to deal with the pandemic with the support of technical and financial partners who have helped Mauritania.

In his answers to questions from participants, the Minister also spoke about the business climate and the steps taken by Mauritania to improve this climate. He also mentioned the measures that will be taken in the future to improve our country’s ranking in this area.

Previously, the Minister had held on the sidelines of the meeting, a meeting with the vice-president of the African committee of international businessmen, Mr. Eric-bastien BALLOUHEY who chaired with him the discussion session.

The meeting focused on the possibility of strengthening and developing the Mauritanian- French relationship in the field of business and investment.
