President of Republic Receives IMF Delegation

On 19 January, in Nouakchott, His Excellency Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, the President of the Republic, received a delegation from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), led by Mr. Jihad Azour, the Director of the Middle East and Central Asia Department. The meeting focused on cooperation between Mauritania and this international financial institution and ways to further strengthen them in the interest of Mauritania’s economic development. Shortly after the meeting, Mr. Azour told the Mauritanian news agency that he was honored by the audience granted to him by the President of the Republic, stressing that the meeting allowed him to thank His Excellency for the warm welcome and the valuable consultations the IMF delegation had with Mauritanian officials. He added that the meeting was also an opportunity to salute the achievements made by our country in recent years through the implementation of a set of reforms which have contributed to improving and strengthening economic stability and maintaining acceptable growth levels. The IMF official noted that he listened to the vision of the President of the Republic on the future of the Mauritanian economy, economic and political developments in the region, as well as on the necessary mechanisms to maintain economic stability, support social stability, and promote economic progress and growth. He also stressed that the IMF, like all other international institutions, is a supporting partner in Mauritania’s economic and financial reforms and policies, which will improve the conditions of citizens and maintain economic stability, noting, in this context, the success achieved by the implementation of the IMF-supported government program.
