On 23 December, Mr. Mohamed Yahya Said, the Minister Delegate to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation, and Mauritanians Abroad, in charge of Mauritanians Abroad, called on the international community to assume its responsibilities for an immediate ceasefire in all occupied Palestinian territories, the protection of the Palestinian people, and the lifting of the blockade established in Gaza.
He further called for the opening of a serious political process, which would allow the Palestinian people to self-determine and establish their independent state on the borders of 4 June 1967, in accordance with the Arab Initiative and the relevant international resolutions. During his participation in the high-level ministerial meeting on the Palestinian issue held in Tehran, he warned that Israel continues to practice genocide and ethnic cleansing against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip and the rest of Palestine.
The Minister said that Palestinian citizens are defenseless, especially children and women, adding that hospitals are destroyed and emptied of their staff, as are places of worship, schools, homes, and public facilities. Indeed, the Gazans have been, for almost three months, the targets of a brutal war by the Israeli army, emphasizing that this war has brought together in an unprecedented manner in contemporary history all the elements of war crimes and crimes against humanity.
He recalled that Mauritania was at the forefront of condemning the aggression against Gaza, stressing in this regard that His Excellency Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, the President of the Republic, called more than once for an immediate ceasefire and lifting of the siege to alleviate the suffering of the brotherly Palestinian people. Furthermore, he committed himself to respect a principled political line by Islamic and humanitarian solidarity and the defense of our first cause, the Palestinian cause.
He added, in this context, that respect our country, with all its brothers and partners, has made all possible diplomatic efforts to force Israel to comply with international legality, noting that these efforts have resulted in resolutions and international positions on which Israel has remained silent until now.
Finally, he indicated that this meeting constitutes an important link in the framework of coordinating positions and strengthening the dynamic of joint action and international mobilization to put an end to this barbarity.
