In presidential decree: 193 common law prisoners released

The Presidency of the Republic issued a decree on Monday evening to directly release 193 prisoners of common law convicted with final sentences, on the occasion of the 63rd anniversary of the National Independence Day.

The decree reads as follows:

“The Presidency of the Republic declares that, on the occasion of the 63rd anniversary of the National Independence Day, and in accordance with the requirements of article 37 of the Constitution, His Excellency the President of the Republic issued a decree reducing for a period of one (1) year the sentence of deprivation of liberty, from which 193 prisoners of common law convicted of final sentences will benefit from direct release.

Persons convicted of crimes related to murder, terrorism, rape, trafficking in persons and slavery practices, smuggling of migrants, incitement to hatred and discrimination, embezzlement and squandering of public funds, counterfeiting of currency, transport, import, export, purchase, sale, brokering or smuggling of high-risk drugs shall be excluded from this reduction.”
