On 19 November, in Nouakchott, Mr. Mohamed Salem Ould Merzoug, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation, and Mauritanians Abroad, met Mr. Subkh Maksym, the Ukrainian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Special Envoy for the Middle East and Africa, and the accompanying delegation.
The meeting focused on issues of common interest, notably the invitation addressed to His Excellency Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, the President of the Republic, by his Ukrainian counterpart, Mr. Vlademir Zelinski, to participate in the international food security summit planned in Ukraine.
The two parties also discussed opening a new Ukrainian embassy in Mauritania and expanding bilateral cooperation to include the areas of energy, food security, higher education, scientific research, and fisheries.
It is noteworthy that this visit comes after the telephone conversation that Mr. Ould Merzoug had with his Ukrainian counterpart and the meeting that took place between the two ministers on the sidelines of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly in New York.
