President of Republic Chairs the first Meeting of the Higher Committee for the Reform and Development of Justice
On Tuesday evening at the Presidential Palace, his Excellency the President of the Republic, Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, chaired the first meeting of the Higher Committee for the Reform and Development of Justice.
In his speech at the meeting, His Excellency the President of the Republic said that he directed the formation of this committee to oversee the implementation of the deep reform adopted by the government and embodied in the National Document for the Reform and Development of Justice, adding that he considers justice reform a central issue and a cornerstone of any economic, social or political reform.
His Excellency the President of the Republic pointed out that professional, transparent and independent justice is necessary to reassure and attract investors and economic operators, who represent the main engine of the economic cycle and job creation.
His Excellency also considered that the judiciary is the basic and sustainable guarantor of peace and social cohesion, adding that the more fair and transparent it is, the greater the trust and the stronger the cohesion and vice versa.
His Excellency the President of the Republic said that this committee will rely in its work on a technical committee chaired by the Minister of Justice and includes all ministerial sectors, actors and key partners, stressing that the committee’s meeting today represents the actual start of the embodiment of this comprehensive reform, which has been a societal demand of the judiciary since independence.
His Excellency the President of the Republic called for exerting maximum efforts for the optimal implementation of this reform, for which the state will harness all the necessary capabilities and means, adding that the work of the committee is not a government initiative, but a collective endeavor that calls on all citizens, professionals, jurists, civil society and government bodies to engage in it as a reform project for justice, each from his position and to contribute effectively to its embodiment on the ground.
