On 6 November, in Nouakchott, Mr. Lemrabott Ould Bennahi, the Minister of Tarde, Industry, Handicraft, and Tourism, received HE Ms. Cynthia, the US Ambassador to Mauritania.
During the meeting, Ms. Kierscht handed the Minister the official document of Mauritania’s return to the African Growth and Economic Opportunities Act (AGOA).
Mauritania ceased to benefit from the preferential benefits of this act under a decision by President Donald Trump taken in 2018 and which entered into force on 1 January 2019.
The lifting of this discrimination denotes progress recorded by Mauritania in various relevant areas since His Excellency Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani came took office in August 2019.
These areas concern political pluralism, the rule of law, the elimination of barriers to investment in the United States, the protection of workers’ rights, the fight against corruption, and the implementation of economic policies aimed at reducing poverty.
