On 22 October, in Nouakchott, Mr. Abdessalam Mohamed Saleh, the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, signed with Dr. Mohamed bin Sulaiman Al-Jasser, the Chairman of the Islamic Development Bank Group (IsDB), a strategic partnership framework agreement between Mauritania and his institution.
This framework agreement covers the prospects and development of future cooperation between the two sides and defines its main axes for 2024-2026.
In his speech on the occasion, the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development highlighted the IsDB preeminent role as one of Mauritania’s major development partners.
He noted that this strategic agreement will make it possible to expand the partnership in the near future and take it toward broader horizons.
Mr. Ould Mohamed Saleh said his department would work to coordinate between the different government agencies on developing the partnership strategy in its final form through a joint team between the IsDB and the Economy Ministry.
For his part, the IsDB Group Chairman expressed his joy at the warm welcome he received since his arrival.
He stressed that this document aims to establish a partnership that includes future programs between his institution and Mauritania.
Furthermore, he emphasized that areas of cooperation would include support for the Government’s efforts to combat poverty, in addition to support for the private sector, as well as the development of Islamic finance and capacity building in agriculture and other areas.
It is noteorthy that Mauritania and the IsDB have maintained cooperative relations since the 70s of the last century, during which numerous development projects were financed by the Bank in several vital sectors, having contributed to the country’s economic and social development.
