On 26 July, the Islamic Republic of Mauritania strongly condemned the coup attempt in the Republic of Niger.
This is what emerges from a statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation, and Mauritanians Abroad, of which the full text reads as follows:
“The Islamic Republic of Mauritania strongly condemns the ongoing coup attempt in the sisterly Republic of Niger.
Mauritanian government, while observing with great concern the evolution of the situation in this brotherly country, renews its absolute rejection of unconstitutional changes of government, which are incompatible with the Constitutive Act of the African Union.
It calls for concerted efforts to preserve the security and stability of the Republic of Niger and its constitutional institutions.
