President of National Human Rights Commission Reviews Mauritania’s Achievements

Mr. Ahmed Salem Bouhoubeyni, the President of the National Human Rights Commission (CNDH), reviewed the progress made by Mauritania in the field of the protection and promotion of human rights.

During a symposium on diplomacy and human rights organized, on 20 June in Nouakchott, by the Diplomatic Academy, he praised the atmosphere of freedoms and the preservation of human dignity that our country has demonstrated in

application of international treaties and covenants. He underlined the importance of our country’s ranking in the annual report of the United States Department of State.

He highlighted the fact that this new classification that Mauritania has obtained in this report, moving from the second level without control instead of the same level with control, gives it many advantages, particularly the opening of trade including

financing and bilateral relations with the United States of America.

The CNDH President added that his commission, starting from the international situation which grants a particular place to human being and the close link between diplomacy and human rights, decided to inform the authorities concerned of the

real situation of human rights in Mauritania. In this context, the commission has organized several awareness-raising campaigns on the importance of the issue.

For their part, the participants in this symposium appreciated the climate of openness and constructive dialogue with the various national and international actors, the foundations of which were laid by His Excellency Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, the President of the Republic, and the remarkable progress that has resulted in the promotion and protection of human rights within the framework of the rule of law.
