President of HAPA Receives Ambassador of Spain

On 16 June, in Nouakchott, Mr. El Houssein Ould Meddou, the President of the Press and Broadcasting High Authority (HAPA), met with HE Ms. Mariam Alvarez de la Rosa Rodriguez, the Spanish Ambassador to Mauritania.

During the meeting, Mr. Ould Meddou reviewed HAPA’s missions, responsibilities, strengthening, and expansion following the reform initiated by the government.

This is part of an overall reform of the Mauritanian press so that it plays its role effectively, on the one hand, and for strengthening freedom of the press and expression, on the other.

He also highlighted the activities of his institution in several areas, such as regulation, training, and its presence at the international level, particularly within the framework of REFRAM, RIARAC, and within the Network of Mediterranean Regulatory Bodies.

The two parties also examined the prospects for defining cooperation between the regulatory bodies of the two countries.

At the end of the meeting, Ms. Rodriguez visited the HAPA monitoring center and received detailed explanations of how it works.
