The U.S. State Department has released its annual “Trafficking in Persons for the Year 2022” report and placed Mauritania on the list of “Unsupervised Tier 2 Countries,” allowing it access to trade with the United States and obtain financing. Me Ahmed Salem Ould Bouhoubeini, the President of the National Commission for Human Rights (CNDH)), expressed, on this occasion, his pride for these advances recorded by Mauritania, which allow it to overtake countries subject to enhanced surveillance and listed commonly referred to as the “grey list”, welcoming the achievement, in recognition of the country’s human rights efforts. Mr. Ould Bouhoubeini also congratulated the Mauritanian authorities and the Mauritanian people for this great success which, he said, is irrefutable proof of the improvement of the human rights situation in Mauritania. “We continue to do more to promote human rights in our country”, as the CNDH President posted on his Facebook account, saying his visit to the United States for almost two months, aimed at informing US authorities of the progress made in Mauritania in the area of human rights.
