Oil Minister Holds Talks With CEO of Fortescue Metals Group Ltd

On 12 June, in Nouakchott, Mr. Abdessalam Mohamed Saleh, the Minister of Oil, Mines, and Energy, met with Dr. Andrew Forrest, the Chief Executive Officer and majority shareholder of Fortescue Metals Group Ltd.

The meeting focused on the investment opportunities that our country can offer to this company in the areas of low-carbon iron production, green steel industry, green hydrogen production, and contribution to the achievement of our country’s strategic vision, which aims to position Mauritania as an integrated hub for the production of clean energy and green minerals over the next decade.

Fortescue Metals Group Ltd is a leading Australian iron ore mining company that produces over 200 million tons of iron ore annually. It was the 4th iron ore producer in the world in 2022.

The company has developed an ambitious decarbonisation and green mining program by 2030 and is investing in green hydrogen projects around the world.
