On 5 December, in Nouakchott, Mr. Abdessalam Mohamed Saleh, the Minister of Oil, Mines, and Energy held a meeting, via videoconference, with Mr. Geoffrey Pyatt, the U.S. Assistant Secretary of State, in the presence of HE Ms. Cynthia Kierscht, the Ambassador of the United States to Mauritania. The meeting aims to launch a dialogue between the two friendly countries on energy.
This dialogue aims to develop joint energy projects to ensure an energy transition, promote the share of the mix in renewable energies, and tackle the root causes of climate change.
The talks touched on Mauritania’s energy transition plans and ways to increase renewable energies and their production.
Mauritania and the United States of America share information on tools available to support Mauritania’s energy security and decarbonization goals. In support of dialogue and continued engagement by both parties, the two states seek to initiate new energy cooperation through the U.S. Bureau of Energy to provide resources to the energy sector program and advance the development of renewable energies in Mauritania.
The two parties have expressed their determination to engage in targeted talks on the issues raised in the coming months.
