Prime Minister Receives UNEP Director in Charge of Ecosystems Division

On 2 June in Nouakchott, Prime Minister Mr. Mohamed Ould Bilal Messoud received Ms. Susan Gardner, the Director in Charge of the Ecosystems Division of the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), currently on a visit to Mauritania.

In a statement to the Mauritanian news agency shortly after the meeting, Ms. Susan Gardner thanked the Prime Minister for granting her an audience and the warm welcome. She conveyed to him the greetings of Ms. Inger Andersen, the UNEP Executive Director, who could not make the trip due to the celebration of the Program’s 50th anniversary.

The Director in charge of the Ecosystems Division indicated that her visit enabled her to observe the state of execution of Mauritania’s achievements in biodiversity and ecosystem protection and ensure that the populations benefit from the resources available.

Ms. Susan Gardner added that they also discussed ways to develop cooperation between our country and the United Nations Environment Program.
