Human Rights Commissioner Receives French Ambassador

On 27 October, in Nouakchott, Mr. Sid’Ahmed Ould Bennane, Commissioner for Human Rights, Humanitarian Action, and Relations with Civil Society, received H.E. Mr. Emmanuel Bessonier, French Ambassador to Mauritania, accompanied by Mr. Hugo Bechtel, the Embassy’s Advisor for Cooperation and Cultural Action.

The meeting focused on the excellent technical cooperation relations between the Office of the Commissioner and the French Embassy, as well as ways to strengthen and develop them, particularly in the areas of promoting and protecting human rights, supporting civil society capacities, and implementing joint programs aimed at strengthening the capacities of civil society organizations.

The two sides also exchanged views on several topics of mutual interest, the most important of which is support for the associative fabric through the “Graines de Citoyenneté” program for consultation and partnership with civil society.
