Minister of Livestock Receives New FAO Representative

On 24 July, in Nouakchott, the Minister of Livestock, Mr. Mokhtar Ould Gaguih, received Mr. Jean Sanahoun, the new Representative of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in Mauritania.

During the meeting, the Minister praised the important role played by the organization in supporting our country, particularly in the areas of technical and economic development related to the livestock sector, emphasizing the importance of strengthening partnership and cooperation in the areas of animal health, pasture development, and improving conditions for livestock farmers.

For his part, Mr. Jean Sanahoun expressed the FAO’s willingness to support Mauritania’s development efforts, noting that the organization has already begun implementing a development project in the Hodh Charghi region aimed at strengthening animal health and preserving pastoral resources through effective veterinary interventions, in addition to training livestock farmers in the areas of fire prevention and sustainable pasture management.
