Mauritania, Russia Sign Two Judicial Cooperation Agreements

Moscow

Mauritania and Russia have signed two agreements on judicial cooperation in criminal matters, covering the extradition of persons sought for criminal prosecution and the transfer of sentenced persons to serve their sentences in their home countries.

The agreements were signed on Wednesday by Mauritanian Minister of Justice Mohamed Ould Soueidatt and his Russian counterpart, Konstantin Chuychenko, on the sidelines of the third Russia-Africa Summit.

The agreements aim to strengthen legal and judicial cooperation between the two countries and establish mechanisms for enhanced coordination in criminal matters, in accordance with their respective legal obligations and mutual interests.

Following the signing ceremony, the two ministers held a working meeting to discuss ways to expand judicial cooperation in civil matters, strengthen institutional cooperation, and facilitate the exchange of legal expertise between their respective ministries.

The discussions also focused on identifying new opportunities to deepen bilateral cooperation across areas of mutual interest.
