President of Nouakchott Region participates in the Annual Meeting of the International Working Group of the Organization of World Cities and Local Governments

The President of the Nouakchott Region, Fatimetou Abdel Malick, will participate from February 17th to 21st in the annual meeting of the International Working Group of the Organization of World Cities and Local Governments, held in Barcelona, Spain.
This forum aims to enhance confidence-building and support cooperation between local and regional governments on the one hand, and partners on the other, and to establish a special action plan for a sustainable future in which all actors in society participate with a double effort to involve youth in facing challenges, especially those related to climate change through what is known as intergenerational dialogue.

In this context, the president of the Nouakchott region stated that the youth population in Africa exceeds the population of the United States of America, which is about three hundred million people, which requires the involvement of young people in the implementation of development plans and programs at the local level.

She pointed out that the branch of the World Organization in Africa is the most organized among the branches of the organization in the world, as it includes a network of young elected officials and a network of elected women.

The president of the Nouakchott region also took the opportunity to talk about the utmost importance that the highest authorities in Mauritania attach to the youth component, which was reflected in the allocation of a percentage of the seats in the Mauritanian parliament to youth and the consideration of the President of the Republic as his current mandate for youth and youth.

On the sidelines of the conference, the President of the Nouakchott Region held bilateral meetings and talks with the head of the local communities sector of the European Commission, the Mayor of The Hague in the Netherlands, and a delegation from the Municipality of Paris, with the aim of strengthening existing cooperation and exploring new horizons for joint action.
