Mauritania Condemns Houthi Threats Against Saudi Arabia, Reaffirms Full Solidarity With Kingdom

Mauritania has strongly condemned recent statements and threats made by the military spokesperson of the Houthi movement against Saudi Arabia, describing them as baseless allegations targeting the Kingdom’s security and sovereignty and as a threat to maritime navigation and international shipping lanes.

In a statement released on July 21, Mauritania’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Mauritanians Abroad denounced the remarks in the strongest terms, saying they undermine regional stability and endanger freedom of navigation in international waterways.

The statement reads as follows:

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Mauritanians Abroad of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania expresses its strong condemnation and deep denunciation of the statements and threats issued by the military spokesperson of the Houthi militia, which included false allegations targeting the security and sovereignty of the sisterly Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, as well as threats to freedom of maritime navigation and the security of international shipping lanes.

The Ministry reaffirms the Islamic Republic of Mauritania’s complete and unconditional solidarity with the sisterly Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and its steadfast support in the face of anything that targets the Kingdom’s security, sovereignty, or vital interests. It also expresses Mauritania’s support for Saudi Arabia’s full right to take whatever measures it deems appropriate to protect its territory, its citizens, and its maritime navigation.”
