Validation of the National Hospital Policy

This Friday morning, a workshop was launched in Nouakchott to ratify the national hospital policy in our country, organized by the Ministry of Health in cooperation with the European Union, the World Health Organization and the French Development Agency.

In a speech on the occasion, the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Health, Mrs. Ba Halima Yahya, highlighted the importance of the outcomes of this meeting, which will enable the activation of hospital policies in Mauritania, noting that Mauritania is committed to providing comprehensive health coverage within the framework of the implementation of the Millennium Development Goals.
She added that this adopted policy needs the support of other ministerial sectors to improve their performance, noting that hospital policies will undoubtedly contribute to strengthening efforts to develop the country’s health policies.She said that it is necessary for the hospital center to respond effectively to the needs of citizens, within the framework of the important role played by the national hospital network in taking care of citizens’ health conditions and fighting the Covid-19 pandemic.She stressed that the first objective of the health policy in Mauritania is to respond to the needs of citizens and provide the health service with the required quality, through the establishment of a law for hospital reform, the enhancement of the quality of treatments and governance, and the promotion of public health activities.She praised the presence and participation of technical and financial partners, reiterating the Mauritanian government’s commitment to implementing these policies, which are an essential part of the national health policy plan.
In turn, the representative of the World Health Organization, Mr. Patrick Kabore, explained that the World Health Organization, in cooperation with the Mauritanian Ministry of Health and with the support of actors, is adopting a hospital policy aimed at ensuring the emergence of a new type of hospital treatment, while ensuring its development in harmony with the elements of the national health system.
On the occasion, he congratulated Mauritania on this initiative, which falls within the framework of the recommendations of the member countries of the United Nations to implement the Declaration on Primary Health Treatments.
For his part, the representative of the European delegation in the workshop, Mr. Ariko Colombo, praised the approach taken in Mauritania to strengthen the health system, considering it an effective approach that would enable the provision of health services to all citizens.
He reiterated the continued support of the European Union to Mauritania, especially in the health field.
