“I thank the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, for the audience he granted us. We also thank the members of the government for their frank collaboration and for the work accomplished within the framework of the response to the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly in terms of improving the social protection system.
We reiterate our support for Mauritania in the areas of access to basic services for all populations, which are essential conditions for guaranteeing peace and stability.
We take this opportunity to deliver a few key messages, given the size of the portfolios: We are asking the Mauritanian government for its support for the implementation of projects and the continuous development of human capital, which is necessary for any sustainable growth. We stress the idea of placing emphasis on the education sector including vocational training.
In response to the health and economic crisis resulting from the COVID-19, the World Bank has supported the Mauritanian government with a contribution of up to 170 million dollars, through economic stimulus measures and cash transfers throughout the territory.
An exclusive operation dedicated to the acquisition of the vaccine is underway for an amount of 15 million dollars.
Finally, we congratulate the President of the Republic for having put in place a program for an inclusive and sustainable economic recovery in Mauritania and renew our commitment to support the development of the country”.
