Minister of Social Action Returns to Nouakchott

The Minister of Social Action, Children, and Family, Ms. Naha Mint Haroune Ould Cheikh Sidiya returned to Nouakchott, on Friday, from Dakar.

In the Senegalese capital, the minister represented Mauritania on 27- 28 May at a roundtable organized by the African platform for the empowerment of women (PAAF) on the theme: “Oil and Gas: The place of women’s groups in local content”.

During the work of the roundtable, the minister delivered a speech in which she mentioned, among other local actions, those undertaken in all rural areas of Mauritania and which relate to the provision of a package of activities likely to contribute to raising awareness about the rights and effective participation of women, the funding for income-generating activities for women’s cooperatives through a fund that has already financed more than 2,300 women’s cooperatives throughout the national territory.

She also underlined that these actions undertaken by the government aim to make women aware of the challenges that remain to be met, as well as the opportunity available to them for effective participation in decision-making to construct the country.

Several themes including the law on local content, the explanation of the oil and gas supply and value chain, or the issue of the necessary technical and financial upgrading of local SMEs were discussed during the meeting.
