Head of National Human Rights Commission calls for seizing the opportunity of openness to advance Human Rights

The head of the National Commission for Human Rights, Mr. Ahmed Salem Ould Bouhoubeïny, said that the annual report, issued by the National Commission for Human Rights, was unprecedented; it followed a methodology that encompassed all topics related to human rights.

During a press conference held Tuesday in Nouakchott, the head of the Human Rights Commission added that the commission, which received the ‘A’ rating in the Human Rights Committee’s review, feels that it plays the role of mediator between the authority and partners, noting that this report was released in an appropriate atmosphere for the human rights efforts and conditions in the country.

He pointed out that the 140-page report included 130 recommendations to the government related to 416 complaints received by the commission, adding that the report followed a systematic methodology by monitoring all Human Rights violations, whether they are civil, political, economic, and social.

He called the civil society organizations to seize the opportunity of openness that marks the general atmosphere of Human Rights in the country and unify the efforts to promote Human Rights, reject hate speeches, violence, and discrimination.
