Cairo
Fatima Mint Abdel Malek, President of the Nouakchott Region and President of United Cities and Local Governments in Africa, participated Wednesday morning in Cairo in the ministerial meeting of housing ministers in her capacity as a representative of local groups.
This meeting is the highest platform for heads of delegation to discuss decisions on adequate housing for all to truly transform the fight against global housing poverty.
The meeting also aims to strengthen the commitment of Member States and all actors on this subject while engaging key stakeholders, including financial institutions and local authorities, to enhance efforts to provide adequate and sustainable housing for all.
In her speech on this occasion, the president of the Nouakchott region thanked the organizers for giving them the opportunity to speak on behalf of the local groups that are primarily responsible for providing housing to meet the increasing demands, especially those resulting from displacement or migration.
She said that despite the efforts made, the supply is still below the required level, which explains the increase in informal housing, stressing in this area that a sustainable solution to this problem requires concerted efforts and work at all levels.
In this context, the president of the Nouakchott region praised the efforts made by the Mauritanian government in the field of housing provision and the eradication of slums through a new methodology and sustainable planning methods that guarantee a new life for beneficiaries.
