Mauritania Calls on Maghreb Union Countries To Discuss Unified Position on Situation in Palestine
Mauritania has called on the countries of the Arab Maghreb Union to hold a consultative meeting at the level of foreign ministers to support the brotherly Palestinian people.
A statement released Tuesday by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation, and Mauritanians Abroad underlines the need for everyone to contribute, from their position, to the protection of the Holy Places, the people and of the land of Palestine.
Here is a translation of the statement:
“The occupied Palestinian territories have known, for days, an unprecedented increase in the abuse inflicted on innocent civilians near the Al-Aqsa Mosque, the forced displacement of Al-Quds residents for the sole purpose of continuing its colonization and to serve the Israeli war machine. By air, land, and sea, women, children, and elderly people are being killed, and the fundamentals of life are systematically destroyed in an area already exhausted by years of suffocation and siege, in a terrible international silence, while Israel is getting rid of its obligations as an occupying Power and flagrantly violating the provisions of international law and United Nations resolutions.
Because of this situation and aware of the specificity of the historical moment and the need for everyone to contribute, each from their position to the protection of the sacralities, the people and the land of Palestine, the Islamic Republic of Mauritania calls for a virtual meeting of the Arab Maghreb Union at the level of foreign ministers, on Thursday 20 May at 9 am (Nouakchott time). This meeting will allow consultation and coordination of North African efforts to support the brotherly Palestinian people to guarantee the protection of their lands, lives, and goods. This is a prerequisite for any prospect of a just and lasting solution that will end the suffering of the Palestinian people in accordance with international law, the relevant United Nations Resolutions, and the Arab Peace Plan”.
