Nouakchott

The Acting Secretary-General of the Ministry of Culture, Youth, Sports and Relations with Parliament, Yahya Ahmedou, in charge of the ministry’s mission, oversaw on Tuesday in Nouakchott the organization of an open day on the problem of illegal immigration in Mauritania, organized by the National Volunteer Program “Watana”.

The organization of this open day, which brings together a constellation of experts and young people, aims to discuss this problem in an atmosphere of frankness, seriousness and responsibility.

The program of this meeting includes four workshops that discuss illegal migration in Africa, shelters and dealing with migrants, the risks and challenges of youth migration, and the role of youth in providing solutions.

During the opening of this meeting, the Acting Secretary-General said that illegal immigration has become a real problem for our country at the developmental, social and economic levels, stressing the ministry’s readiness at the beginning of the youth mission and in accordance with the vision of His Excellency the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, to deal positively with the program’s proposals, and its interest in the discussions and ideas that will enrich the workshops of this symposium.

He added that stopping the bleeding of youth migration in dangerous circumstances is the responsibility of all young people, executives, intellectuals, media professionals and social influencers, calling on everyone to work to protect the country from the exacerbation of this dangerous phenomenon for future generations.

In turn, the General Coordinator of the Watanuna Volunteer Program, Mr. Ahmed Abdul Rahman Al-Dah, pointed out that the problem of illegal immigration poses a challenge to the higher authorities of the country, and the interest that this imposes on young people in the phenomenon in study and analysis, whether it is related to immigration coming to or leaving the country, and submitting proposals and recommendations in this regard to the concerned authorities.

He stressed that the Watanyna program relies a lot on the level of presentations, discussions and interventions in this symposium, because of its role in creating awareness and responsibility among young people of the dangers of this purity, which eats away at society from within economically and socially.

This open day is organized with the participation of a delegation from the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, and one hundred young leaders of associative movements and civil society.
