On 18 July, His Excellency Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, the President of the Republic, President-elect, received a message of congratulations from HE Mr. Fumio Kishida, the Prime Minister of Japan, on the occasion of his re-election, in the first round, on 29 June 2024, to the presidency of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania.
The message reads as follows:
“His Excellency Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, On behalf of the Japanese government and people, I would like, Excellency, to warmly congratulate you on your re-election as President of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania.
I think that your re-election is a reflection of the confidence and high expectations of the Mauritanian people in You.
I am convinced that under your leadership, Mauritania will continue to be a cornerstone of peace and stability in the region and will make further progress in social and economic development.
Looking ahead to the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 9) to be held in August 2025, I am pleased to work closely with Mauritania, which currently holds the presidency of the African Union (AU), for the preparations, including the TICAD Ministerial Meeting to be held in 2024 August. I would like to invite Your Excellency to participate in TICAD 9, which will also be an opportunity to further develop bilateral relations between Japan and Mauritania.
