On Tuesday 11 June, Mr. Mohamed Zein El Abidine Ould Cheikh Ahmed, President of the National Union of Mauritanian Employers, met in his office with Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Sultanate of Oman, who began a visit yesterday to Mauritania.
At the beginning of the meeting, the President of the Federation welcomed the Minister and wished him a good stay among his people in Mauritania. The President of the Union expressed his deep appreciation and thanks, on behalf of the Mauritanian private sector, to the Minister for this visit, noting that it will be a good set off for more mutual visits and investments between the two brotherly countries.
The meeting dealt with the existing relations between the two countries in the economic field and ways to develop them and activate the partnership between economic actors in the two brotherly countries.
In this regard, the President of the Union gave a presentation on the priority sectors and the great economic potential that Mauritania has, especially in the fields of agriculture, livestock, fishing, minerals, gas, renewable energies and green hydrogen.
The President of the Federation called on business owners in the Sultanate of Oman to seize the privileges provided by the Investment Code in Mauritania and to strengthen partnerships and exchanges with Mauritanian economic operators in order to achieve the common interest, expressing the Union’s readiness to support everything that would strengthen relations and trade exchanges between the private sectors in Mauritania and the Sultanate of Oman, including the establishment of a joint business council between them.
In turn, the Minister thanked the President of the Union for the warm reception and spoke about the existence of many opportunities that can be invested to establish a partnership with a strategic dimension between the two countries and the private sectors, noting in this context, that an economic delegation from the Sultanate will visit Mauritania soon.
The minister also spoke about the importance of having agreements to encourage investment between the two countries and prevent double taxation.
Following the meeting, the minister expressed his thanks to the President of the Mauritanian Employers’ Union and his happiness to meet him and his hope that the partnership and trade exchanges between the two countries will be strengthened.
