Prime Minister Visits Rural Development Ministry
On 16 April, the Prime Minister, Mr. Mohamed Ould Bilal, paid an information visit to the Ministry of Rural Development.
During the visit, the Prime Minister held a meeting with the executives of the rural department during which he underlined the interest of the sector, and its expected contribution to the resolution of certain problems and the satisfaction of the needs of the populations.
“The efforts made in the field of agricultural development and the construction of dams and dikes are in vain if they are not exploited to achieve the well-being and prosperity of the citizen. We must evaluate the results according to the volume of production and its development in this or that locality this year in comparison with the one before to ensure its progressive pace, and to ensure the quality of the product. Market gardening must be the subject of a major interest. We must direct our action towards achieving self-sufficiency in vegetables”, as the Prime Minister put it.
The Prime Minister also emphasized the need to strengthen confidence between the citizen and the State, revitalize the projects thanks to the resolution of the problems posed, modernize the administration, and opt for the choice of quality, mechanization and respect for the country’s interest at home and abroad, during international meetings, conventions, and international markets.
Regarding the program of the President of the Republic, the Prime Minister clarified that it is detailed in the government policy statement presented to Parliament, and that it constitutes the reference for government action.
“Time is running out. We must act quickly to accelerate the implementation of the program’s components relating to rural development”, he added.
The Minister of Rural Development, Mr. Dy Ould Zein, made, on this occasion, a presentation on the results of the action of his department in recent years, especially in terms of irrigated and rainy crops, vegetables, crops grown around the oases, and fodder.
The Prime Minister then gave the floor to the officials of the ministry, whose interventions focused on their attachment to the choices of the State in the rural area.
At the end of the meeting, Mr. Dy ould Zein told Mauritanian news agency (AMI) that the Prime Minister called for the facilitation of citizens’ access to the services of the ministry and the resolution of their problems.
The Prime Minister was accompanied by the Minister Secretary General of the Government, the Director of the Cabinet, and advisers to the Prime Minister.
