President of Republic Receives Syrian Ambassador’s Credentials

On 27 February, in Nouakchott, His Excellency Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh Ghazouani, the President of the Republic, received the credentials of HE Mr. Qusay Mustafa, in his capacity as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Syrian Arab Republic to the Islamic Republic of Mauritania.

After the credentials’ presentation, the President of the Republic granted the Syrian diplomat an audience in the presence of Mr. Mohamed Salem Ould Merzoug, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation, and Mauritanians abroad.

In a statement to the Mauritanian news agency following the meeting, the Syrian diplomat explained that he was honored to meet HE Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, the President of the Republic, to whom he presented his credentials as Ambassador of the Syrian Arab Republic to the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, noting that the President of the Republic assured him, during the meeting, that relations between the two brotherly countries are solid and rooted in history.

He indicated that Syria considers Mauritania as the impregnable western gateway to the Arab world, noting that the Syrian Arab Republic appreciates Mauritania’s honorable position on the war against Syria, as it has maintained our embassy and the ambassador, as well as official, parliamentary, political, and even popular party visits in solidarity with Syria.

Mr. Mustafa said he assured the President of the Republic that he would strive to develop cooperative relations between Mauritania and Syria – which are already excellent – to meet the ambitions of the leaders of the two countries and achieve the aspirations of the two brotherly people.
