Prime Minister: “Human Challenge in Sahel Region Remains Worrying”

His Excellency Prime Minister Mohamed Ould Bilal has affirmed that this region does not face security challenges that raise concern as much as the presence of the human challenge, which remains the strongest, as the region witnesses one of the highest rates of demographic growth on the planet, while the human development indicators are among the lowest in the world.

During the opening this morning in Nouakchott via videoconference of the works of the fifth regular session of the regional steering committee of the project for the empowerment of women and the demographic dividend in the Sahel region (SWEDD), he indicated that the electoral pledges of His Excellency the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazwani, place at the core of their goals the concerns and challenges on the basis of which SWEDD was established in the Sahel region.

He added that the project should therefore formulate and implement an appropriate approach that enables the transformation of the demographic burden into a real development opportunity, while at the same time reducing gender inequality.
