Human Rights Commission Reviews our Country’s Experiences in Protecting Rights of People with Disabilities

The Assistant Commissioner for Human Rights, Humanitarian Action, and relations with Civil Society, Mr. Rassoul Ould Khal, said, during its participation on Tuesday, via videoconference, in the works of 17th session of the Independent Permanent Commission for Human Rights of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, that Mauritania took a series of practical and concrete measures to protect the rights of persons with disabilities.

He added that such measures included the adoption of several development programs aimed at the most vulnerable strata of society, in general, and persons with disabilities,in particular.

As part of its efforts to protect the rights of persons with disabilities, Mauritania had issued a disabled person’s card, which would enable them to benefit from a package of programs, mobility facilities, job applications and positive discrimination in several areas.
