Arrival of First Batch of COVID-19 Vaccines to Nouakchott
The first batch of 50,000 doses of the Chinese anti-covid vaccine ‘’Sinipharm’’ arrived Tuesday evening to Nouakchott Oum Tounsi international airport. The ceremony of reception the batch of vaccines and a respirator (type 13 A) was supervised, on behalf of His Excellency the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh Al-Ghazouani, by the Minister of Health, Mr. Mohamed Nedhirou Ould Hamed.
On this occasion, the Minister welcomed the reception of the batch of vaccines, which is a testament to the fruitful cooperation existing between Mauritania and China.
He added that this gesture of friendship and solidarity reflects the level of bilateral relations between the two countries in the field of health, in general, and the bilateral cooperation in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic, in particular.
On behalf of His Excellency the President of the Republic and the Mauritanian people, he thanked the Chinese rulers, the government and the staff of the Chinese Embassy in our country.
For his part, the Chargé d’affaires at the Chinese Embassy in Nouakchott, Mr. Wang Jian, expressed his deep satisfaction to see Mauritania receiving this quality of the Chinese Sinipharm vaccine; which, according to him, will help Mauritanian health workers in their efforts to fight covid-19 and strengthen the country’s capacity to deal with the pandemic.
He noted that the delivery of this batch of vaccines is the result of direct contacts between the Mauritanian and Chinese presidents, adding that China is already targeting 70 developing countries to be the subject of a vaccine offer.
The Chinese diplomat highlighted the great efforts made by Mauritania to fight against COVID-19 and that it has greatly contributed to limiting the spread of the pandemic and reduce its negative repercussions.
He praised the efforts of the Mauritanian Minister of Health which have largely contributed to the development of Mauritania-Chinese cooperative relations in the medical field.
