Minister of Health chairs the Meeting of the Multi-sectoral Ministerial Committee in Charge of Medicines

On January 6, 2026, the Minister of Health, Mr. Mohamed Mahmoud Ould Eli Mahmoud, headed, alongside the Minister of Digital Transformation and Administration Modernization, Mr. Ahmed Salem Bade Atchfagha, today Tuesday at the ministry headquarters in Nouakchott, a meeting of the multi-sectoral ministerial committee in charge of medicines.
This meeting comes as part of ongoing efforts to improve the quality of medicines, regulate them, and combat the parallel market, in implementation of the directives of His Excellency the President of the Republic in this field.
In a statement to the Mauritanian News Agency,the Minister of Health explained that the committee in charge of medicines holds two meetings each month: the first is held at the Prime Minister’s office under the chairmanship of the Prime Minister, Mr. Mokhtar Ould Diay, while the second takes place at the Ministry of Health building, in order to follow up on the implementation of the roadmap for reforming the country’s pharmaceutical sector.
He added that this meeting was dedicated to following up on the outcomes of the last meeting, which centered on 11 recommendations, eight of which were at the Ministry of Health level, and three at the level of other sectors.
He pointed out the presence of a technical committee derived from the multi-sectoral committee, which regularly monitors the implementation of those recommendations, noting that the meeting included presentations by the relevant ministerial sectors on the implementing texts of the latest Pharmacy Law.
He added that during the meeting a number of topics were discussed, including monitoring the pharmaceutical sector, the situation of the Central Company for the Procurement of Medicines and Medical Supplies (KAMEC), the supply at the level of the Ministry’s Supply Department, and drug quality control through laboratory tests, in addition to the role of digitalization within the work of the committee, and presentations by other sectors on the level of progress achieved, each within their field of expertise.
