On 26 June, in Geneva, Mr. Cheikh Ahmedou Ould Sidi, the Commissioner for Human Rights, Humanitarian Action, and Relations with Civil Society, held a working meeting with Mr. Volker Turk, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, on the sidelines of his participation in the work of the 53rd session of the Human Rights Council.
The meeting was an opportunity to discuss the various aspects of cooperation between the government and this UN body responsible for promoting and protecting human rights at the international level.
During the meeting, the Commissioner reviewed the major progress Mauritania has made in recent years since His Excellency the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, took power, emphasizing the government’s determination to consolidate these achievements.
In turn, Mr. Turk expressed his satisfaction at meeting the Commissioner for Human Rights, Humanitarian Action, and Relations with Civil Society and the delegation accompanying him, emphasizing that our country is a model of stability and fruitful cooperation in the human rights field.
