President of Republic Supervises Launch of Nouakchott Urban Transport Project First Phase

On 24 February, in Nouakchott, His Excellency Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, the President of the Republic,  supervised the launching ceremony of the 1st phase of the urban transport project in Nouakchott by 2026.

The project, executed by the Ministry of Equipment and Transport with a financial budget amounting to MRU 4 billion, concerns 150 buses, 50 of which will be brought into circulation, will enable the public transport company of Nouakchott (STPN) to transport 150,000

passengers per day.

It will be accompanied by several additional measures to free up public space, the implementation of a strategy reorganizing parking areas through the preparation of a parking strategy, the organization of the transport of goods to the city center,

and the creation of a permanent space to accommodate 5,000 cars, particularly the “car markets”.

The project, which will be completed after three years, will provide a convenient bus transport system offering more efficient services in terms of continuity, frequency, comfort, and safety on 51 km routes connecting the neighborhoods of the moughataas of

Nouakchott.
