Oil Minister Returns From Riyadh

On 13 January, Mr. Abdessalam Ould Mohamed Saleh, the Minister of Oil, Mines, and Energy returned to Nouakchott from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia after taking part in the work of the second edition of the International Conference on Mines, held in Riyadh from 10 to 12 January 2023.

During the round table of ministers concerned with mines that took place during the conference, the Minister presented the strategic vision that will make Mauritania a future hub of low-carbon energy and green mines.

The presentation also touched on combining strategic mines necessary for the energy transition) with renewable energies to produce green mines (with carbon-free production). It also addressed the issue of regional cooperation.

The conference, which saw broad participation of official delegations, specialists, and people interested in mining affairs, addressed several important topics, including the future of the mining sector, its contributions to the development of societies, the promotion of sustainable and clean energy, and the attraction of direct investment in the mining sector.

Participants also discussed improving the contribution to strategic mineral supply and value chains and developing them into an integrated center for the production of green minerals, as well as the role of modern technology and artificial intelligence in the conduct of exploration and mining operations.
