He affirmed that the government pays particular attention to all Mauritanians, whether they were inside or outside the country, stressing that reforms have been undertaken recently in favor of Mauritanians abroad.
Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouan cited, among these reforms, the creation of a department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation, and Mauritanians Abroad in charge of the Mauritanian colonies, the election of their representatives to parliament, and the adoption of a law authorizing dual nationality.
He said it is unacceptable for a Mauritanian to be a foreigner in his homeland because he had sacrificed himself to provide decent living conditions for his family and contribute to the development of his country.
The President of the Republic also assured that the action of the government aims to solve all the problems and constraints facing the colonies before praising the interventions of their representatives, saying they were important and had addressed the supreme interests of the Nation.
His Excellency the President of the Republic commended the efforts made by all members of Mauritanian colonies around the world to support the country during the COVID-19 pandemic and their willingness to contribute to the efforts deployed to deal with this health crisis through medical assistance or economic contributions to the national fund to fight the epidemic.
In their interventions, the representatives of the colony welcomed the achievements made over the past three years, in general, and for the benefit of the colonies, in particular. They called for the contribution of the diaspora to take advantage of their skills and expertise in addition to the opening of consulates in the United States, an embassy in Canada, and a cultural center that links members of the colonies to their homeland and culture. They thanked His Excellency the President of the Republic for this meeting, which demonstrates his interest and the attention he gives to the situation of the colonies and for his efforts to solve all their problems.
At the end of the meeting, the representatives of the colony delivered a shield in honor of His Excellency the President of the Republic and in recognition of the significant achievements accomplished in their favor as well as for his tireless commitment to solving their problems.
