Foreign Minister Participates in 166th Regular Session of Council of Arab Foreign Ministers

The 166th regular session of the Council of the League of Arab States at the foreign ministers’ level kicked off on Monday morning in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, with the participation of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Mauritanians Abroad, Mr. Mohamed Salem Ould Merzoug.

In his address during the session, the Minister congratulated the sisterly Republic of Tunisia on assuming the presidency of the current session, wishing it success and guidance in carrying out its duties. He also commended the efforts of the sisterly Kingdom of Bahrain during its presidency of the previous session.

He further congratulated the Secretary-General of the Arab League, Mr. Nabil Fahmy, on assuming his duties, affirming Mauritania’s support for his efforts to advance the process of joint Arab action. He also welcomed the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriate Affairs of the sisterly Republic of Yemen, Ms. Afrah Abdulaziz Al-Zouba, on the occasion of her first participation in the Council’s proceedings.

The Minister expressed his sincere gratitude to the member states for their support for the Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, noting that this stance reflects their appreciation for the role played by Mauritania, the approach adopted by the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, and the efforts of Mauritanian diplomacy.

Regarding the Palestinian cause, the Minister reaffirmed Mauritania’s unwavering position in support of the Palestinian people’s right to establish an independent state within the borders of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
