Director General of Somelec Announces Return of Eastern, Northern Substations to Normal Operation

The Director General of the Mauritanian Electricity Company (Somelec), Mr. Khroumbaly Lehbib, announced that the Eastern and Northern electrical substations in Toujounine and Tevragh Zeina have returned to normal operation.

In a statement to the Mauritanian News Agency early Thursday morning, he confirmed that the repair work carried out has enabled the two substations to resume 100 percent operation.

He stated: “We are now at the Eastern Substation, where repair work aimed at restoring it to full operational capacity has been completed. The two transformers are functioning properly so far, and all neighborhoods connected to this station—namely Toujounine, Dar al-Na’im, al-Tarhil, and Malah—will be supplied with electricity within minutes.

Thus, the process of restoring the Northern and Eastern stations to service has been completed successfully and in record time.

On this occasion, I would like to thank the technical teams at Somelec, who worked day and night without stopping, for their dedication and professionalism. I would also like to thank our partners who answered our call and provided technical support by offering their expertise and equipment, which enabled us to achieve this result, praise be to God.

The challenge now is to ensure the continued operation of this equipment under such conditions—a challenge that, God willing, we will overcome in the coming days and weeks.

It is worth noting that restoring this station to normal operation was achieved by restarting the 15-kilovolt cells after they were repaired and put back into service, using backup equipment we had on hand, as well as by bringing in additional equipment from abroad, which enabled us to restart the station, praise be to Allah.”
