Minister of Mines Attends Critical Minerals Forum in Abidjan

On July 10, Mr. Eddi Ould Zeine, Mauritania’s Minister of Mines and Industry, attended the Ministerial Forum on Critical Minerals, Value Chain, and Beneficiation, held at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Abidjan.

Organized by the African Development Bank Group (AfDB) under the theme “Pathways for African Transformation,” the forum was inaugurated by Sidi Ould Tah, President of the AfDB Group. The event brought together African ministers responsible for mining and energy, representatives of financial institutions, and international partners, including the U.S. Department of the Treasury, Japan’s Ministry of Finance, the UN Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), Afreximbank, as well as several development agencies and international geological organizations.

The forum focused on ways to strengthen the development of Africa’s critical mineral resources and expand related value chains to increase the value added of the continent’s mineral wealth. Discussions also addressed promoting local industrialization, creating jobs, and supporting the energy transition and advanced technology industries amid growing global demand for critical minerals.
