On July 8, Ms. Houda Babah, Mauritania’s Minister of Education and Education System Reform, departed Nouakchott for France to participate in the Transforming Education Summit +4, an international conference held under the theme, “Transforming Education Systems and Building Their Resilience to Achieve Sustainable Development Goal 4.”
The minister’s participation underscores Mauritania’s commitment to strengthening its engagement in global education initiatives. It comes after the country’s election by the UN Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), for the first time, to represent the Arab region on the High-Level Steering Committee responsible for monitoring the implementation of Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4) for the 2026–2027 term.
The appointment reflects growing international recognition of Mauritania’s progress in education, particularly the reforms undertaken to modernize and strengthen the country’s education system.
