Mauritania and Italy Agree to Accelerate the Implementation of a Promising Agricultural Project

Rome

Negotiations between delegations from the Islamic Republic of Mauritania and the Italian Republic have concluded in the Italian capital, Rome, as part of the follow-up to the joint agricultural reclamation and investment project between the two countries. The project, which is funded by the Italian side as part of the Mattei Plan for cooperation with Africa, aims to reclaim and develop an agricultural area of between 5,000 and 10,000 hectares for the benefit of Mauritania.

The Mauritanian delegation included Her Excellency Ambassador Khadija Mubarak Vall, alongside officials from the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security and the National Rural Development Company (SONADER), as well as a number of advisers from the Mauritanian Embassy in Rome.

The two sides reviewed the results of the consultation meetings and the outcomes of the field visit to the BFI Foundation in Bologna, which is responsible for overseeing the implementation of the project, and expressed their satisfaction with the progress made. They also agreed to continue efforts to finalise the necessary administrative and technical procedures in preparation for the signing of the contract and the effective launch of the project as soon as possible.

The Italian side emphasised the importance of expediting administrative procedures and fulfilling the formal requirements, whilst the Mauritanian delegation reaffirmed the government’s commitment to providing the necessary facilities and ensuring the appropriate conditions for the project’s success.

Ambassador Khadija Mubarak Vall praised the level of cooperation between the two countries, emphasising the diplomatic mission’s readiness to support the implementation of this project, which is expected to contribute to strengthening the bilateral partnership and supporting agricultural development in Mauritania.

At the conclusion of the talks, both sides expressed their satisfaction with the level of understanding and coordination that characterised the meetings, reaffirming their determination to continue working together to complete the various phases of the project in accordance with the agreed timetable.
