President of Republic Launches Assistance Operation to Support Low-income Households

His Excellency the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, supervised this Friday evening in Nouakchott-North the launch of the Assistance operation, aimed at supporting low-income households and strengthening their capacity to cope with the cost of living resulting from the current economic situation.

Upon his arrival, His Excellency the President of the Republic inspected a number of trucks loaded with food products destined for distribution across the country’s various wilayas (provinces) as part of this operation.

Subsequently, he gave the official kickoff for the operation before viewing a detailed presentation regarding its components, implementation mechanisms, target beneficiary categories, as well as the volume of interventions programmed under this social initiative designed to support vulnerable households.

As part of this operation, cash transfers will be distributed to all households registered in the social registry, totaling over 352,000 homes spread across all the country’s wilayas, which corresponds to more than two million citizens.

The operation also includes the distribution of food baskets to over 155,000 of the most vulnerable households registered in the social registry, thereby covering the needs of approximately one million citizens across the country.

The financial cost of this operation—which aligns with the directives of His Excellency the President of the Republic to assist vulnerable segments of society and provide them with support during special circumstances—exceeds 12 billion Ouguiyas (old currency).

This comprehensive assistance is part of a package of interventions implemented by the government to tackle the negative effects of the crisis in the Middle East, which has had a significant impact on fuel and basic commodity prices.
